When families in IVF practice want to genetically test an embryo, a cell, i.e. a biopsy, is taken from the resulting embryo, and this cell is sent for testing. This determines whether the embryo is healthy or unhealthy, and whether it is a boy or a girl. Abnormalities in 23 pairs of chromosomes are studied. The test readiness time is 21-30 days.
